SPAR, DALSTON: REVIEW
A new shop has opened on Kingsland Road: SPAR.
Obviously I had to go in.

Spar is a bit of an odd one: it sort of disguises itself as a health food shop but actually isn't... slightly disappointing. But I did find an amazing shelf full of herbs and spices in jars! With metal lids! And paper labels! I stocked up on a few, with the idea that when I do make it to a re-fill shop I'll take them with me.

They also had jars of double cream and clotted cream, some nice (but pricey) coconut oils and local-ish honeys. They have a fairly small selection of loose fruit and veg, and that's pretty much it.
But wahay for the herb jars!
Side note: this shop is shared by Pickles, a fresh pizza counter that smells preetty good...
UPDATE ~ Sept 21st
Found myself in Dalston yesterday and it turns out SPAR has had a bit of a revamp already.

They now have a few more plastic-free goodies, including:
greetings cards, wrapped in just their own envelopes
Snowdonia Cheese Company cheeses, wrapped in wax
A full range of Aspall vinegars, including balsamic (it doesn't have a plastic pourer, but has the tiniest weeniest plastic film inside the lid, but I don't think I can be too pedantic about that otherwise I'll starve)
Organic porridge oats and muesli in paper bags

This shop doesn't contain the answer to everything, or the meaning of life, but it does have some pretty handy essentials. If only I still lived in Dalston!
