HARVEST, DALSTON: REVIEW

Plastic-Free: Day 18

I FOUND FROZEN PEAS!!!

They sell them in Harvest in Dalston, in a cardboard box. The shop staff weren’t sure whether there was a plastic bag inside the box, but I couldn’t hear any crinkling when I shook it so took a risk and bought it. A risk well worth taking!

HARVEST, DALSTON

I only had a quick look (I had told my dad I’d meet him half an hour ago but couldn’t resist popping in). Aside from all the great free-from stuff they sell, the whole shop was surprisingly still quite plastic-heavy. I was hoping to find a little gem of cocoa powder or pasta, but nope :(

Having said that, I think I’m just getting spoilt now. My expectations of health food shops are getting higher by the day.

They did have a great selection of coconut oils, fresh bread (and paper bags to put them in – but I prefer to bring my own tea towel), small yoghurts in ceramic pots (La Fermière), cotton sanitary items (Natracare and Organyc), even bamboo toothbrushes – I totally bought one and I love it! I also treated myself to some Ecover dishwasher tablets* and washing powder in a carton. And most excitingly – frozen peas! I am pleased.

*Later discovered Ecover dishwasher tablets are individually wrapped in plastic. I've sent them a tweet and hoping to hear back soon - will update!
